The article: If Strategy is So Important, Why Don’t We Make Time for It? by Dorie Clark at the Harvard Business Review
What I think: Although it’s 5 years old now, a lot of the sentiment here still holds true. We often overlook making time for strategy because:
- What is it anyway?
- There’s no immediate pay off
- (What’s the question again? I was just checking my phone)
The thing I know that works is:
- If you think it’s important, it must be scheduled – so either schedule it or don’t worry about it (don’t waste time worrying about it)
- Strategy is a set of principles – so get clear what you need to do in a group: discussing ideas, current and future state, trends and opportunities that can turn into principles; as opposed to solo work: plans and actions
