Scott sat down with us to tell us a little about what makes him tick.
Welcome Scott! Tell us about yourself.
I wear a few hats in my professional life and love the diversity that it provides. I work as a leadership and management consultant to support people and the organisations they work for achieve their goals in a positive way. I’m drawn to and enjoy supporting people that dream big and have the courage and capability to make them a reality.
I’m a founding director and shareholder of Pulse Climbing, an indoor rock-climbing business with locations in the Newcastle, Hunter and Central Coast regions. Over a 10-year period in the role as Managing Director I led the growth of the business from one location to four along with a fabulous team of almost 90 people.
I was fortunate to grow up on my family’s beef cattle property near Singleton and have recently taken on the management of the property and started a cattle breeding business with my wife Kate which is the realisation of an important life goal. Growing up in an environment like this has had a big impact on my development and who I am today. It’s a great mix that gives me energy and purpose.
How did you come to be at LKS Quaero?
From 2011, I worked with Sam Robinson the LKS Quaero Managing Director for several years as a leadership and management consultant. We always clicked and had very close alignment in values and vision. After a few years I stepped back from this work and took on the Managing Director role of Pulse Climbing with the intention of scaling the business. I spent a fantastic 10 years leading the business developing new locations and growing the Pulse team and the community of climbers in the region. All through this time Sam was a close confidant and external advisor that really helped me achieve my personal and business goals. I always knew that when the time was right to step back from an operational role with Pulse Climbing that I would return to leadership consulting work with Sam. I’m really excited for the next chapter working with him and the LKS Quaero team.
What interests you about leadership and management?
I love supporting people who are driven to achieve purposeful and exciting goals both on a personal and organisational level. To support someone to develop their capability as a leader and create the conditions where their team and the whole organisation are all working together productively to achieve a common goal is a powerful thing. Working with great people to make this happen has a real impact on the world as well as a positive impact on people’s lives.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have always been drawn to the outdoors and adventure sports. It’s always a weekend or holiday well spent if I’m camping, climbing or mountain biking with my family and friends in beautiful places.
